For years, I have been researching and writing my first book, a family memoir set against the struggles of a rural community and emerging country grappling with emigration and change throughout the twentieth century.
From a small farmhouse at the bottom of a lane in the countryside of Ireland to the United Kingdom and the United States, this work of nonfiction explores the relationships in a family of sixteen children -- eight daughters and eight sons, no twins. Through moments of love and loss, new beginnings as well as departures, the narrative spans three generations, preserving the history of a place and its people while also reflecting on the experiences shared by countless others around the world who know what it means to leave home or to be left behind.
